ScenePick — Privacy Policy

ScenePick ("the app") is a movie and TV show recommendation app, developed by an independent developer based in Bulgaria (EU). This page explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and who to contact with questions.

Information we collect

• Anonymous account ID. When you open the app, an anonymous, randomly generated ID is created for your device (via Firebase Authentication). This ID is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal identity.
• Comments you post. If you post a comment on a movie or show, we store the comment text, the display name you choose to enter (which does not need to be your real name), whether you marked it as containing spoilers, and the time it was posted. Comments are visible to other users of the app.
• Reports you submit. If you use the "Report" button on a comment, we store the reported comment's text, the anonymous ID associated with the report, and the time it was submitted, so we can review and act on it. Reports are not visible to other users.
• "Pick together" rooms. If you create or join a shared room to pick a title with someone else, the titles on your unwatched list (name, year, poster) and the display name you choose to enter are stored in our database under that room's code, so the other room member(s) can see them. Anyone who has the room code can view and add to that room's shared data — treat the code like a shared link, not a password. Rooms are not automatically deleted; see "Data deletion" below.
• Data stored only on your device. Your watchlist, personal ratings, quiz preferences, viewing streak, and taste profile (built from the optional "rate a few movies" step) are stored locally on your device and are not sent to or stored on our servers, unless you explicitly share part of your list through a "Pick together" room as described above.

Information we do not collect

We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise location. We do not require you to create an account or log in with any personal credentials.

Third-party services

• The Movie Database (TMDB). The app fetches movie and TV show information (titles, posters, descriptions, ratings) from TMDB's API. This app uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
• Firebase (Google). Used for anonymous authentication and to store comments and "Pick together" room data. See Firebase's privacy documentation.

Advertising

ScenePick is entirely ad-free. The app does not display advertising, has no advertising SDKs integrated, and does not use your data to serve ads.

Donations

The app's Google Play Store listing may include an optional link to Ko-fi, a third-party platform for voluntary donations to the developer. This link is not part of the app itself — tapping it opens Ko-fi's website in your browser, outside the app, and is entirely optional. Donating does not unlock any feature or content within the app. Ko-fi is operated independently of ScenePick; see Ko-fi's own privacy policy for how it handles your information if you choose to use it.

Children's privacy

ScenePick is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Notifications

If you turn on the optional daily reminder, the app schedules a local notification directly on your device via your operating system. This does not involve a push notification server and no data about your watchlist is transmitted to us or anyone else for this purpose.

International data storage

Data described above (comments, reports, "Pick together" rooms, and the anonymous ID) is stored using Firebase/Google Cloud infrastructure, which may process and store data outside your country, including in the United States. Google provides standard contractual safeguards for this kind of international transfer under its own data processing terms.

Your rights (EU/EEA users — GDPR)

If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the limited data described above, to object to or restrict its processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because the app does not collect your name, email, or other identifying information, we can only locate and act on data you identify for us (for example, a specific comment's text and approximate posting time, or a room code) — contact us using the details below.

Data deletion

To request deletion of a comment you posted, contact us at the email below with details identifying your comment (movie/show title and approximate date posted). To request deletion of a "Pick together" room, contact us with the room code.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
